Here at Brisco, we try to introduce some of the best culture produced by British artists and writers. We don't care how old it is; if the art was good, we want to remember and recommend it. Fashions may change, but quality is always quality.
Recently we have been watching the very wonderful TV drama from 1984, "The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes". High quality scenario writing, beautiful costumes and set designs, stories told at a slower pace. The title character is played by the great British actor Jeremy Brett.
36 years have passed, but many people still feel that Jeremy was the greatest ever Sherlock Holmes. Trained at the Royal Shakespeare Company, and a most elegant speaker of the English language, Brett uses his hands, fingers, eyes, and beautiful voice to give us a Sherlock who is more real (!) than the Sherlock created by Conan Doyle..
It is a miraculous performance, which we can enjoy in more than 40 episodes of this unique drama. Let's return to the period of Sherlock and Victorian England: no Coronavirus, no masks, no Trump, no Brexit, no Olympics, no Royal Family interviews…
(In Sapporo, the Tsutaya rental shop at Odori has DVD copies of "Sherlock Holmes", with Japanese subtitles; or you can watch many episodes on YouTube, but without Japanese subtitles).
