Coming to SatsuGeki cinema (opening December 18th), we can see a black comedy called "About Endlessness".
The director Roy Andersson won the best director prize at last year's Venice Film Festival. He takes a long time to make his films, usually about 7 years for each film.
Now age 76, Andersson has a unique sense of humor. He is also a real film artist: in his films, you can see images which will remind you of some famous artists and paintings. In the new film, you might be reminded of Chagall, Hopper, Matisse, Breugel and Hammerschoi. Andersson is more interested in the images than the story. In his films, there are many short scenes, but they are not clearly related to each other.. Modern life in a big city in Sweden, bright lights, no shadows, many strange pale people, some unhappy, some confused, some tired, some just trying to survive everyday routines..
If you want to see a happy ending, you might not like Roy Andersson. But you will see images that you will not forget soon.. If you have been to Scandinavia or the Northern parts of Europe, you really should try to see at least one film by the unique talent that is Roy Andersson.
