Welcome back Satsu Geki(札劇)

Wonderful news for film fans in Sapporo: Dinos Satsu Geki has re-opened in a great location in Tanuki Koji 5 chome. A nice new lobby with some beautiful books on display that we can browse through, while drinking coffee, waiting for the film to begin. We went to theatre number 4; comfortable seats, and a little cool air blowing through the cinema to keep you safe and refreshed.

What about the films? This week you can see "Rumble", a fantastic documentary about the music of American Indians and their descendants. Not only about their music, it is also an important education in the history of the USA; how the Indians' culture has been damaged and destroyed by the white colonizers who have spent the past 300 years trying to bury the Indians' culture.

Many people know about the African-American tradition of Blues music from the slave plantations; but the story of the Native Indians' music is almost never told. "Rumble" is a wonderful documentary that you should try to watch at Satsu Geki this week.

ps. Next week at Satsu Geki, we have a rare chance to see a famous documentary from 1959, "Jazz on a Summer's Day"; if you like jazz music, this film is a must-see. Do not miss it!
