August 7th- We got the Ferry from Belfast to Stranraer in Scotland. It's a big ship. It's always busy. Our private taxi driver was Steve's sister, a really great confident driver. We wanted to give her a large tip, but she refused to accept it. We drove along the beautiful West coast to Glasgow. Over the next 4 days, we went to some nice restaurants, in Glasgow, Edinburgh and St Andrews. These days, every restaurant makes a big effort to be careful about customers' food allergies. You can ask the waiter about the menu, you can even walk into the kitchen and speak to the chef..
If you visit Scotland, you have to try the national dish, Haggis. At the Scotts restaurant in Greenock near Glasgow, the Haggis with turnips and potatoes is quite amazing. Because of Steve's nut allergy, the chef served a special nut-free Haggis dish. Thank you very much!
We had one day to visit Edinburgh, meet some friends, and see the famous Festival street-life. If you want some exercise, you should walk up the steps to Calton Hill. Half-way up, there was a talented guitarist ("Infields" is his recording name) playing some cosmic Pink Floyd chords. Rather nice. At the top, you have the best view of Edinburgh Castle and Arthur's Seat, another popular hill to climb..
