Everyone knows how great The Beatles were. We don't need to say that again, and again. But do you know much of Paul's music after the end of The Beatles? For the past 50 years, McCartney has been making some fantastic music; at first with his band Wings, then many solo albums. Here at Brisco, we love Macca, and we would like to recommend our top five favourite albums written by Paul, after The Beatles waved goodbye. Thank you Paul, for all the gifts you have given us..
Number 5: London Town. 1978. Includes "With a Little Luck", Paul's first song using electronic synthesizers.
Number 4: Tug of War. 1982. Includes "Here Today", a sweet tribute to John Lennon two years after his death.
Number 3: Chaos and Creation. 2005. Not a happy album, but it does include several of Macca's most beautiful melodies, especially "Too Much Rain", and "Follow Me".
Number 2: Ram. 1971. Paul's wife Linda sings some nice backing vocals; includes the perfect ballad "Back Seat of my Car", which we saw Paul writing in the documentary film Get Back.
Number 1: Band on the Run. 1973. It's a masterpiece, a great rock album. In fact it's a miracle; the original tapes were stolen, and Paul had to record everything again, from scratch. Side two, put the needle down, close your eyes and enjoy twenty minutes of McCartney's heavenly melodies.
Are you too busy to listen to any of the five albums mentioned above? Okay, no problem. Here are three short songs, hidden classics that everyone should listen to, if you love pop music.. (You can listen to them on YouTube)..
"I Want to Come Home". 2013… Forty-three years after "Let It Be", here is the sequel..
"Water-spout". 1977. Just listen to it..!! At least once in your lifetime, listen to this crazy song..
"Pretty Boys". 2020. McCartney collaboration with Khruangbin, the wonderful band from Texas. At the age of 78, although his voice is sounding a little tired, Paul writes another classic pop song..
Postscript: Brisco Steve would like to pay tribute to the memory of the late Ryan Brady. With his podcast "Take It Away", Ryan was a wonderful teacher and guide through the Paul McCartney catalogue. Ryan passed away on November 26th 2020, at the age of 34.
